NEW YORK, NY - Hadassah, The Women's Zionist Organization of America, Inc. (HWZOA) National President Rhoda Smolow and CEO/Executive Director Janice Weinman released the following joint statement following the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act being signed into law.

"Hadassah applauds the bipartisan recognition of the importance of enhanced leadership in combating the global rise in antisemitism by elevating the position to address this issue. In passing the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Anti-Semitism Act, and by signing it into law, the United States has laid a marker in history and sent the unequivocal message that antisemitism will not be tolerated.

"Future ambassadors will surely benefit from today's action, which affords the Office of the Special Envoy the tools, resources and gravitas necessary to apply much needed pressure on foreign governments to address antisemitism as part of their relationships with the United States.

"Hadassah members played an active role in the very creation of the Special Envoy position in 2004 and have consistently advocated for elevating the officeholder's rank to ambassador in the intervening years.

"America's outstanding commitment to combating antisemitism is greatly enhanced today. To witness this legislation reach the President's desk for his signature is a momentous victory, and we look forward to working with both parties to advance policies that make additional progress in the effort to build a safer world."
