Urge Congress to Affirm Support for Israel

Thursday, Jul 10 2014

Israel once again finds itself in a time of crisis, forced to take military action to defend its citizens from indiscriminate rocket and mortar fire. American support and strategic partnerships are instrumental to securing Israel’s safety. In recent days over 500 rockets have been launched at Israel from Gaza, and over 75 missiles headed for populated areas were intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

On March 5, the House of Representatives passed the United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act of 2014 (H.R. 938) in a vote of 410-1. This legislation has been received by the Senate and was referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations.

The bipartisan United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act would strengthen U.S.-Israel cooperation in the areas of security, intelligence, technology, and commerce. The legislation reaffirms America’s commitment to provide support for the Iron Dome short-range rocket defense system, promotes energy cooperation, and codifies Israel’s status as a major strategic partner of the United States.
