Advocacy Update - August 8, 2017

Tuesday, Aug 8 2017

Great work! By making your voices heard, you helped to protect women's health coverage and foreign aid to Israel and Hadassah Medical Organization. Keep it up and take action on these other crucial issues.

Prevent Genocide and Mass Atrocities

Honor Elie Wiesel’s memory by urging your legislators to support and cosponsor the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act of 2017. The bill calls for the establishment of a Mass Atrocities Task Force as well as a Complex Crises Fund to better monitor, analyze, and respond to heightened threats of, or acts of genocide and atrocity crimes.

Be a Champion for Paid Family Leave & Medical Research

Keep advocating for women’s health equity by promoting paid family leave and medical research. Women often serve as caregivers to both children and aging parents. It’s been 24 years since the Family and Medical Leave Act was signed into law and it needs an update. Urge Congress to pass the Family and Medical Insurance Leave (FAMILY) Act of 2017, which would allow employees to receive up to 66% of their monthly wages while on leave, funded by a new system of small payroll contributions.

Women live longer, but we also live sicker and face disproportionate health risks. Investments in medical research can improve women’s wellness throughout the lifespan by helping medicine better address our unique health needs. As budget negotiation for 2018 commence, urge your legislators to support robust funding for medical research and greater inclusion of females in research studies.
