May Is Hadassah Nurses Appreciation Month

Friday, May 11 2018

“I celebrate nurses, because they have a huge positive impact on health and wellness.”

— Ellen Hershkin, Hadassah National President

At Hadassah we’re celebrating nurses all year long — as part of Celebration 2018, marking the 100th anniversary of the Henrietta Szold Hadassah-Hebrew School of Nursing.

Our Members, Our Nurses to Watch
Get to know some of the outstanding nurses who are part of our Hadassah family. Each member brings a unique and powerful voice and perspective to our organizational tapestry. Check out our Nurses to Watch during May, women like Joyce Backman, a mother of two, Taekwondo black belt, nurse, and Hadassah member. “When I hear about new medical advances that have come out of Hadassah,” she says, “I feel proud to support Hadassah.”

Celebrate Nurses: Take a Selfie
Tell the world you love nurses! It’s easy — just print out this sign, add a few words, snap a selfie and share on social media with the hashtags #Chai5aNurse #CelebrateNurses. HMO Nurses Building Bridges to Peace
Building bridges to peace has been an intrinsic part of the work of Hadassah for over 100 years. Consider Julie Benbenishty, an intensive care nurse who serves as the Trauma Nurse Coordinator at Hadassah Hospital Ein Kerem. She’s one of two Hadassah nurses, one Jewish and one Arab, who work with Nurses of the Middle East, an NGO. Listen to our new Hadassah On Call: New Frontiers in Medicine podcast episode, and hear Julie share her story about what drew her to nursing, being a volunteer for Nurses of the Middle East, and why she has spent most of her career at Hadassah Hospital.

100 Years of Hadassah Nurses
From two nurses facing the overwhelming task of bringing health and hygiene to a backward population to their critical role in delivering the most advanced health care in the Middle East, Hadassah nurses have been part of the fabric of Israel for a century.  Learn about Hadassah’s history.
