Rally for Reproductive Rights on March 4

On March 4, the Supreme Court of the United States will hear a case, June Medical Services, LLC v. Russo, that could mean major setbacks for women's health and rights. Hadassah Greater Washington and the National Hadassah Professional Councils are mobilizing their members to rally that morning, joining thousands of fellow advocates gathering at the Supreme Court to show support for reproductive rights. Learn more and join Hadassah — in-person or online — as we make our voices heard.

Contact State and Federal Legislators
Urge your elected officials to support women's health and take proactive steps to protect women's reproductive rights, like cosponsoring the Women's Health Protection Act.  This crucial legislation would allow Congress to stop state-level abortion bans and other onerous and medically unnecessary requirements placed on patients, physicians, and service providers.

Spread the word on social media.
Let your friends and family know why reproductive rights is so important to you. Add our Women's Rights Are Human Rights frame to your Facebook profile picture. Post, comment, and share Hadassah's reproductive rights graphics during the rally.

What You Need to Know
Last year, states enacted over 50 pieces of legislation that ban or restrict women's access to reproductive health services. Together, we affirmed our commitment to reproductive rights, participated in a Day of Action with rallies across the country last May and we came together in July on the streets of New York to make our voices heard. Hadassah's Reproductive Choice policy statement, reaffirmed last year, shows unequivocal support for a woman's right to choose.

2020 marks 47 years since the Supreme Court of the United States' landmark Roe v. Wade decision. Yet the future of our reproductive rights is uncertain as the Supreme Court gets ready to hear a case that could mean major setbacks for women's health and rights.

The case June Medical Services LLC v. Russo challenges a Louisiana law that would place onerous and medically unnecessary regulations on clinics and physicians, thereby eliminating nearly all access to abortion care throughout the state. The law is identical to a Texas law that was struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court in 2016 (Whole Woman's Health v. Hellerstedt).

Hadassah proudly joined with the National Women's Law Center and 71 other organizations in filing an amicus curiae ("friend of the court") brief, which highlights the serious adverse consequences to women’s economic security, health, safety, and autonomy that result from restrictions on a woman's right to choose.
