August 31, 2020 NEW YORK – Hadassah, The Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Inc. National President Rhoda Smolow and CEO/Executive Director Janice Weinman released the following joint statement today following the announcement by UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan that his nation’s anti-Israel boycott law has been rescinded, and in celebration of the first-ever commercial flight between Tel Aviv and Abu Dhabi.

“For more than 48 years, the United Arab Emirates maintained its boycott of the Jewish state. It denied the people of Israel and the UAE access to each other’s economic, artistic and scientific advances. But today is the start of a new era of peace and collaboration. Hadassah applauds Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan for setting an example of peace, friendship and true leadership in cancelling the boycott of Israel.

“New relations between Israel and its Gulf neighbors are a positive and welcomed development that enhances security and enriches people in every way. Hadassah hopes that peace between Israel and the UAE will demonstrate to all of Israel’s neighbors what is possible with visionary leadership.

“The future belongs to those who carry peace in their hearts, and we look forward with optimism towards the possibilities that peace with the UAE will bring.”
