Hadassah Urges Action From the Podium at No Hate, No Fear March in NYC

Monday, Jan 6 2020

On the first Sunday of 2020, Hadassah members and leaders — led by new National President Rhoda Smolow — joined an estimated 25,000 women, men and children of all faiths in lower Manhattan at the No Hate, No Fear Solidarity March.

From the podium, community and faith leaders spoke about the importance of coming together to fight hate and anti-Semitism. One of the event's powerful speakers was Hadassah CEO/Executive Director Janice Weinman, who elicited cheers as she urged the crowd to get involved in a Hadassah's national advocacy initiative.

"We are currently — Hadassah and the Federations around the country — working to ensure that a bill that was introduced by our own Congresswoman here in New York, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, the Never Again Education Act, will be passed by Congress," she said from the podium to cheers from the crowd of thousands.

"The Never Again Education Act ensures that the most important thing that we can do to prevent this from occurring again is to educate our children — all children — about hatred, about anti-Semitism, about bigotry. I urge you, as a child of Holocaust survivors, to go out and speak to every congressman and senator in your communities to cosign the Never Again Education Act, [which] provides resources, materials, trainings for teachers, opportunities for children to go to memorial sites."

"It teaches the next generation not to hate. So please, we have nearly 300 congresspeople who have already signed up. And nearly 30 senators who have signed up. We urge you, we implore you, to please tell others about the importance of this bill. Never again!"
