Rochester, New York Chapter
Henrietta Szold founded Hadassah in 1912, and it was in Rochester, NY, that the name Hadassah was officially adopted at the first National Convention in 1914. Although there were only 10 Chapters, 8 of them sent delegates to this Convention. Attendance was so small that the delegates were taken into the home of Henrietta's friend, Tillie Rose, who became Rochester’s first Chapter President (1914-1919). Her memory is honored every year with a special educational program that is open to the entire Chapter and our community. Our local Chapter currently has over 600 members, most of whom are Life members. We also have over 85 men who are Associates. Our Chapter has changed with the times. During the 20th century we created many individual Groups, based on age, stage of life, geography, etc. As of 2019, we have evolved back into one Chapter with no Groups. We continue to have evening and afternoon monthly book groups, and provide a wide variety of interesting, educational and social programs for our members and the community. We also have had a Medical Center Party every spring for over 60 years. This event raises much needed dollars for our continuously growing Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem. Our Chapter continues to raise funds for Hadassah’s many commitments, including Youth Aliyah and Young Judaea. Hadassah has grown to become the largest women's volunteer organization in the United States with over 300,000 members nationally. The Rochester Chapter is a strong and vibrant organization with women who participate, lead, and share their passion for all that Hadassah does in Israel and the United States.

•OH YEAH.... don't forget the Shed at the JCC –bring your used clothing, fabrics, sheets etc. to the St. Pauly Box. We get paid by the pound and split it with the JCC.
While this is not as any of us had hoped, we feel the chapter will continue with this more limited structure. If you are interested in helping out on any of the activities, please contact Marcia at the phone or email below. She will get you to the right person and place!
Wishing you all good health and happiness!
