From our President

Hadassah’s Mission Statement

Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, is a volunteer organization that inspires a passion for and commitment to its partnership with the land and people of Israel.  It enhances the health of people worldwide through its support of medical care and research at the Hadassah Medical Organization in Jerusalem.  Hadassah empowers its members and supporters, as well as youth in Israel and America through opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy, and Jewish continuity.

President’s Message

Welcome to the Houston Hadassah’s website. Houston is proud to be home to more than 4700 members, associates, and supporters.  With 15 groups we stretch from Galveston in the far south to Spring and the Woodlands in the north.  We have groups that meet during the day, at night, and on weekends, as well as groups for young adults and for seniors.  Want to meet with women who have shared interests?  Many of our groups have special interest groups like book clubs, mahjongg, study, art, and movies.  If you are not already a member of Hadassah, we’d love to have you join us.  We have the right group for you.

For more than 100 years Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America, Inc., has provided health care and education in Israel and around the world.  Hadassah provides medical care regardless of race, religion, or nationality and was nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.  With the addition of our new Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower to the Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO), we are continuing to provide cutting edge medical care.  Our “Research in Service to Humanity” campaign shares the discoveries made at our HMO with the world.  Current research using stem cells is being done to treat ALS, MS, age-related Macular Degeneration, Alzheimer’s, Diabetes, and more. HMO has also been very active in COVID 19 research with 16 case studies (out of 150 world wide).

Hadassah has a dynamic advocacy program in the United States. Hadassah was very involved in helping the Never Again Education Act to pass both houses.  Currently we are advocating for strong US/Israel relations, an end to Human Trafficking, gender equality in research, combating Anti-Semitism and affordable health care.

Locally, we participate in Dress for Success, Meals on Wheels, Let My People Read, Pikuah Nefesh, Shalom Bayit and collect toiletries for shelters.  We support Camp Young Judaea, Israel programs for youth.

I would like to thank you for your membership and interest in Hadassah.

Groups

Anne Frank

Comprised of intelligent and creative women of all ages, we offer friendship and camaraderie at each meeting. We gather from 10:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on alternating Wednesdays/Thursdays of the third week of each month, September through May. Fascinating presentations followed by a delicious lunch make for a memorable time each and every month. Our 'significant others' are included in our annual themed "fun-raiser", where a good time is had by all, and where we always raise a significant amount of money for Hadassah. Special interest groups include book club, Mah Jongg, movie/theater, and birthday club, as well as a community service project. Look for us on Facebook, too!

Annie Leff

All ages. Our group is a dynamic, fun group of married and single women, with or without children, most living in Meyerland, West University, Bellaire, and Memorial. Evening meetings are generally held mid-week; dates vary so we can include more of our members. Schmooze, 7:00 PM; meeting and programs begin 7:30 PM. Programs include health and fitness, travel, sandwich generation, fashion, and cooking. Ladies Night Out may find us at a local play or restaurant.

Avital

Most members are over 60 but all ages are welcome. Meetings are held at 1:30 the second Wednesday of the month. Program meetings are scheduled every two months with book club held alternating months. Members are from the Meyerland, West University, Bellaire, Medical Center and Galleria areas; working and non-working women with varied interests. Programs include a variety of topics from the fields of education, entertainment, culture, politics, medicine, current events, and Jewish interest.

Aviv

Like its name, Aviv is an adventurous, vivacious, independent, vibrant group of all ages and stages, serving The Woodlands and surrounding areas. Monthly meetings are held evenings, on the second Thursday of every month. The purpose of the group is to connect and to empower Jewish women to effect change. There exist many opportunities for personal growth, education, advocacy, and Jewish continuity.
