Delray Beach Chapter Does "Paint the Tatas"

Sunday, Apr 27 2014

One image showed a field of bright yellow flowers; another replicated a famous Peter Max painting and a third mirrored the smiling face of a corpulent cat.

Though all the paintings were artistic and colorful, it was the canvas that made them truly unique. They were all painted on the bare torso of women volunteers.

The Florida Region of Hadassah on a Sunday at the end of April sponsored a "Paint the Ta-Tas Day" event at the Diagnostic Centers of America in Delray Beach, to raise breast cancer awareness. Hadassah members in chapters from Boca Raton to Vero Beach turned out to support the 48 "models," 16 artists and eight female photographers that took part in the ta-ta painting event that ran from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

"We're doing this event for two reasons," Joan Baron, president of the Florida Atlantic Region of Hadassah said.

"The first is to raise breast cancer awareness and the second is to raise money for research to prevent breast cancer." After the volunteer models had their torsos painted from the shoulder to the navel by professional artists, each human painting was photographed and will be made into a large artistic poster. The finished poster will be sold at Hadassah's major fund raising gala event on Oct. 26 at Congregation B'nai Israel in Boca Raton. The gala will honor breast cancer survivors as well as local doctors who are renowned for their expert work in the field of breast cancer. The event will raise funds for awareness, research and treatment at Hadassah Medical Organization in Israel.
