David Project Israel Uncovered: Campus Leaders Mission Visits Hadassah

The participants from the David Project.

Nancy Falchuk is on the board of the David Project and has arranged for Barbara Sofer, Israel Director of Public Relations at Hadassah Office in Israel, to meet the project director on her scouting trip to Israel. As a result of these connections, Hadassah has become a regular stop on the David Project Israel Uncovered: Campus Leaders Mission. Student leaders represent every mainstream student community including student government, several ethnic student unions, College Democrats, gay rights alliances, medical student associations, etc.

The group of students arrived at the hospital on the last day of their visit, after they had been introduced to most of the country. Barbara introduced the students to Hadassah hospital. She brought the students special interviewees, and asked them to freely address their questions and concerns.

After the introduction about the founding and principles of Hadassah, the group met Dr. Mushira Abu-Dia, an Arab Israeli, who is an ob-gyn at Hadassah. Her job entails working at clinics in East Jerusalem with Palestinian women, and in Beit Shemesh with Ultra-Orthodox women. She's also the co-chair of the mobile clinic group that visits Palestinian villages on Shabbat to upgrade medical care. She answered a vast range of questions, about women's health, about the conflict, and about her life experience.

Next, the group got to speak with settler/patient Dvir Mossai, who talked about being blown up by a terrorist, his 30 surgeries at HMO, and his change in attitudes after making Hadassah his second home. The meeting took place in the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Tower. Then the students took a quick detour to orthopedics so they could have a glimpse of the inside of a ward, which was coordinated with Prof. Liebergall. Lastly they ended in the Chagall Windows.
