Attorneys and Judges Council

Hadassah's Professional Networking Councils provide a unique opportunity to connect with others who share the same vocation, and take action on issues vital to women, the Jewish community, and Israel.

Hadassah’s National Attorneys and Judges Council invites members who are attorneys and judges to connect nationally and locally. National programs include the Amicus Brief Program, the Supreme Court Swearing In Program, Webinars, and a Book Club. Members are encouraged to become Hadassah Advocates by registering in the National Action Center to receive Advocacy Alerts. Upcoming national events include a Mission to Israel and a National Day of Advocacy in Washington, DC. Local Attorneys and Judges Councils enable lawyers and judges to meet, network, and discuss issues that relate to their careers and the Jewish community while promoting Hadassah's mission.

Amicus Brief Program

Our members with a legal background play a vital role in supporting Hadassah's advocacy efforts through the Hadassah Amicus Brief Program. A nationwide committee of Hadassah Member and Associate Attorneys review coalition amicus curiae ("friend of the court") briefs to help determine if Hadassah will join the briefs. Most of the briefs Hadassah signs on to involve our domestic policy priorities such as women’s health issues and First Amendment-related religious issues. Click here to read a compendium of Hadassah's policy statements.

In the last three years, Hadassah has joined over 30 briefs concentrated on the topics of contraceptive and abortion access, same-sex marriage rights, separation of church and state, and Title IX. Briefs were also signed regarding public funding of stem cell research, and the State Department's designation of Jerusalem on U.S. passports.

The registration fee of $450 includes three meals, local transportation, speakers, and guides in Washington, DC. Fee does not include $200 payment to the Supreme Court, travel to DC or local lodging. Please note that all cancellations are subject to a service fee of $100 before October 26, 2019 and $200 before November 16, 2019. No refunds will be issued after November 16, 2019. Please note, however, that admission to the courtroom to hear oral arguments at the High Court will only be permitted through the "Admitted Attorneys" line, and will not be with the rest of the group. As an "alum" of our program, you will be with the group throughout the balance of the event.
