Hadassah’s new national book club, "One Book, One Hadassah," launched on June 10, 2020, with a live interview with best-selling author Jennifer Weiner, whose just-released novel Big Summer is the book club’s first pick.
In an hour-long conversation with Hadassah Magazine Executive Editor Lisa Hostein, Weiner — with tremendous humor, candor, and insight — elaborated on some of the book’s key themes, including the impact, both positive and negative, of social media and why promoting body positivity is so important to her. She discussed her own ties to Judaism, as well as how and why she features Jewish themes and characters, particularly Jewish women, in her work. And she talked about the challenges of parenting today, particularly amid the current climate of the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement for racial justice in the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.
The Jennifer Weiner interview was seen by 1,000 people on Zoom and over 260 on Facebook Live, with women tuning in from around the world, including across the United States and as far away as Japan.
The next selection for "One Book, One Hadassah" — a joint venture from Hadassah Magazine and the Engagement Division — is The Book of V, which will kick off with a live interview with author Anna Solomon on August 20 at 7 pm EDT. To register, click here.
