What is it about Hadassah that resonates with you?
I have been involved with Hadassah for over 30 years. What resonates with me is the passion and the love the women of Hadassah have for fighting for women’s rights; supporting an amazing hospital in Israel, and the research breakthroughs Hadassah Hospitals have made throughout the years.
How did you get involved with Hadassah?
My sister introduced to me to Hadassah when I moved to Rochester as a new graduate. There I met a group of woman that became lifelong friends of mine, and we had a lot of fun working together while raising our families. Hadassah has always been a part of my life. I was president of the Rochester Chapter, and shortly after moving to Las Vegas in 2005, I became president again of the Hadassah Southern Nevada Chapter. I also worked in both the Upper New York State Region and Desert Mountain Region in several capacities, and I feel so lucky to have made so many wonderful friends in Hadassah.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I am from a very close-knit family of four sisters and their families. I went to school for my nursing degree at Alfred University in Alfred, NY. After I finished school and took my nursing boards, I went to Israel and spent almost a year there. When I came back I moved to Rochester, NY, and I worked in the hospital and then as a community health nurse. School nursing became my love, and I have been working as a school nurse between Rochester and Las Vegas for 30 years. Along the way, I got married to Alan and have two boys ages 29 and 31, and now have a beautiful daughter-in-law.
As a nurse, what do you find most inspiring about Hadassah’s efforts?
There have been so many things I have found inspiring throughout the years. Hearing and reading about the touching stories that have come from Hadassah Hospital and the difference we have made in people’s lives, has been the most inspiring. It has made me so proud to know that through the work I have done with my friends and family, we have been able to help so many lives.
