Career and Family.
My husband, Bob, and I just celebrated our 36th anniversary. We have one grown son, who is a software engineer. I worked for 40 years as a clinical social worker, part-time once my son was born. I retired a year ago.

I am also an artist. I paint with acrylics and show my work locally, in library shows, coffee shops, a couple of local churches, a bank, etc. I’ve painted over 200 portraits of children -- all the children I worked with as a child therapist, my neighbors, nieces, nephews and more. I’ve given all those paintings to the children in them. I also paint some scenery and am experimenting with abstraction. My website is www.judibabcockpaintings.com

How did you get involved with Hadassah?
I have been a member of the Shawsheen Valley Chapter of Hadassah Northern New England since 1985. My mother was a Hadassah member in Great Neck, NY, and president of her chapter at North Shore Towers in Little Neck for many years. She made me a life member. I met some of the Hadassah members of Shawsheen Valley shortly after moving to Bedford, MA, and then joined. Initially, I was probably most interested in getting to know other women in my new town.

What is it about Hadassah that resonates with you?
I am proudest of the cutting-edge medical research done at Hadassah, including research on treating ALS, cystic fibrosis, heart stents, stem cell therapy and more. I am also proud of how their medical staff seem to respond quickly and help out after typhoons, hurricanes and other disasters strike all over the world.

Share something you would like people to know about you.
I have held various positions on the board of Shawsheen Valley, including being the membership chairperson and being a co-president for four years. I have been chairing the book group of the chapter for many years. Everyone in the chapter, or any chapter, is welcome to join the book group for any meeting. We meet about once every 6 to 8 weeks for a potluck Sunday brunch in each other’s homes. It is informal, fun, and a good way to get to know each other better.
