What is it about Hadassah that resonates with you?
Through Hadassah, I feel joined to many amazing women who have become my sisters and mentors. As a nurse, I feel connected with Hadassah knowing the importance of good health care, especially in a growing country located in the Middle East. Understanding the need for the medical research we do impassions me to spread the word to everyone I meet about how wonderful this organization is.

How did you get involved with Hadassah?
My involvement with Hadassah was meant to be, as I grew up in a family dedicated to service. My parents were both active in our local synagogue, and I became involved in USY. My aunt (Judy Heller), who is now 90, is well known in the Nassau region. She was my connection to Hadassah. I remember her always talking about "her hospital," meaning Hadassah's hospitals. In 1980, I relocated to a new community in Monticello, NY. A neighbor told me the best way to meet people was to join Hadassah. At my first meeting, I was introduced to many warm, intelligent women who welcomed me with open arms. They taught me about Hadassah's many projects and the organization. In no time I became very involved and made friends I still see almost 40 years later. I have since moved twice, and each time my way to get connected in the community was Hadassah.

Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a family nurse practitioner with over 40 years of nursing experience. I have worked in many health-care settings such as hospitals, WIC (Mothers, Infants, Children), public schools and private practice. As a volunteer I have taught health-related topics at the American Cancer Society and in schools (Check It Out). Prior to relocating to Pennsylvania, I was very active in my synagogue as vice president, board chair, and chair of the rabbi search committee. A four-generation life member and Hadassah Keeper of the Gate, I am married to Wayne, a Hadassah Associate. My daughter and granddaughters are all life members.

As a nurse, what do you find most inspiring about Hadassah’s efforts?
I am so proud of our humanitarian efforts to treat all those who enter HMO. Anyone who asks me about Hadassah hears how we were nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2005 as well as our beautiful new Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower. People are amazed when I tell them how we go to countries around the world to give medical care during disasters such as earthquakes and storms. Our research for treatment for those with ALS and MS is helping many people not just in Israel, but throughout the world. In my private practice I have told my patients to check our website to see all the advances we have made in these fields.
